Mark Higgins of EUMETSAT talks about why operating Europe’s weather satellites is Big Data at the rate of 200 GB/day and how a failed power amplifier led to a much wider data access, getting it to the remotest places where there is no internet.
Mark Higgins leads the training activities of EUMETSAT – Europe’s weather satellite organisation. He started out his professional career using GPS data to improve rainfall forecasting but for the last decade has been involved in education and training.
